摘要: The UK lies towards the southernmost distribution limit of circumpolar Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus), and native populations high national conservation value occur in all four component countries. However, given temperature requirements this species already relatively mild climate, there is strong reason to expect a significant negative impact climate change on local populations. Data were assembled from repeated population assessments using combinations hydroacoustics, gill netting, entrapment records fisheries catches at five Scottish populations, English one Welsh population. These data then used test hypotheses that has been widespread decline it can be attributed least part change. Ten 11 studied exhibited 1990-onwards declines abundance, while only most northerly showed increase. Overall, was positive relationship between observed ranking vulnerability based water body latitude, altitude mean depth. observations support hypothesis suffered recent UK, although additional factors are undoubtedly also involved some specific cases, factor.
