摘要: This paper evaluates the political impact of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, now in its fifteenth year. The summarises evolution Gras from a protest march into month long festival, culminating street parade. It traces development governance organisational arrangements. this event five contexts is then discussed: consciousness mobilisation gay lesbian community; public attitudes; major centres; state. In particular relations with NSW state government, at executive levels, police reviewed. concludes has played pace‐setting role each context success least terms attracting attention, does however create new strategic challenges for sponsors.
