Urban amenity, human capital and employment distribution in Shanghai

摘要: Abstract Human capital theory argues that by attracting skilled workers urban amenities are increasingly important to the location decisions of firms and employment agglomeration. However, this hypothesis has been questioned with respect direction causality at interurban level, existence endogeneity, confusion between revealed actual preferences consumers. In research, contribute existing debate over relationship jobs, we develop a new measurement private service based on comments about facilities from Dianping.com , further relate it labor markets in Shanghai intra-urban level. We find human distribution can partially explain agglomeration Shanghai, their applicability is also influenced types sectors. Private amenities, such as entertainment, shopping, for-profit healthcare facilities, restaurants, largely associated producer services subdistrict-level, which supports theory, while manufacturing more likely development public transportation systems. Our study provides an innovative way examine theories context social data revolution. It suggests Chinese government encourage decentralization overcome increasing centrality accelerating marginality employment.
