摘要: The attainment of fluency in reading is a major difficulty for reading-disabled people. Manipulations applied on the presentation texts, leading to "on-line" effects (i.e., while texts are manipulated), one direction examinations search methods affecting reading. imposing time constraints, by deleting letter after other from presented computer screen, has been established as such method. In an attempt further understand its nature, we tested relations between constraints and processes reading: phonological decoding small orthogrpahic units addressing orthographic representations mental lexicon. We also examined whether type unit deleted (lexical, sublexical, or nonlexical unit) any additional effect. Participants were German fifth graders with (n = 29) without 34) disability. Time enhanced both groups, similar extent, across conditions. Comprehension was unimpaired. These results place very principle regardless manipulated, critical factor However, explained significant amount variance all conditions children, whereas consistent predictor regular readers. indicate qualitative difference explaining readers suggest that might not have effect these performance.
