Grid states and nonlinear selection in parametrically excited surface waves

摘要: Interacting surface waves, parametrically excited by two commensurate frequencies (Faraday waves), yield a rich family of nonlinear states, which result from variety three-wave resonant interactions. By perturbing the system with third frequency, we selectively favor different wave Where quadratic nonlinearities are dominant, only observed patterns correspond to 'grid' states. Grid states superlattices in corotated sets critical vectors spanned sublattice whose basis linearly stable modes. Specific driving phase combinations govern selection grid
