摘要: An atomic force microscope has been used to image four commercial stainless steel samples of widely differing surface finishes. Analysis the images allowed quantification roughness over different area scales, 50 × μm, 10 μm and 1 μm. The was also measure directly adhesion a single polymer latex particle (radius ∼5 μm) in solution using colloid probe technique. It found that increased with decreasing roughness, except for smoothest which exhibited very regular features on scale most relevant (1 μm). There good correlation between variability each corresponding roughness. Measurements this type should prove useful technical/economic choice finish particular purpose. As dimensions comparable those bacteria yeast cells, such measurements especially be value selection likely minimise bioadhesion.
