摘要: . Purpose: To evaluate the effects of hypo-osmolar tap water and isotonic saline solution on intracameral pH, intraocular pressure histological changes in alkali burned rabbit eyes. Methods: Four groups four corneas each were with 2 N sodium hydroxide, then rinsed 0.5 l or 1.5 l water, respectively. Changes pH monitored an microelectrode. Intraocular (IOP) was by a transducer placed vitreous cavity. After enucleation, histology performed. Results: The increased after 1.5 min following application. Irrigation different solutions affected maximum levels reached. Following rinse, rise significantly lower than rinse. The rinsing showed significant delay. increase IOP 23 ± 10 mmHg without differences between groups; original recovered 18 ± 9 min. Histology eyes revealed oedema all corneas. Other ocular structures appeared unchanged. Conclusions: The hypo-osmolarity led to remarkable corneal oedema. Enlargement diffusion barrier intracorneal dilution inhibit elevated levels. difference reached may influence degree subsequent structure injury. Therefore, use iso-osmolar proves be less efficacious as irrigation agent for burns.
