摘要: Abstract The performance of management strategies for a prawn fishery in northern Australia is evaluated using the strategy evaluation (MSE) approach. operating model on which analyses are based includes population dynamics models four species and five stocks each species, an effort allocation benthic impacts model. Management implemented through controls fishing that targets two main target (Penaeus semisulcatus Penaeus esculentus) technical interactions between also taken into account. total set by distributed to regions grid cells region models. measures used this study cover conservation economic returns impact communities. Two classes evaluated. One class seeks move towards spawning stock size pre-specified fraction at Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) achieved threshold control rule, while other selects time-trajectories future maximize discounted profit. levels profit over long-term outperform those aim toward SMSY terms most measures. For example, even when MSY-based selected be same as maximizes profits, selecting profits leads lower variability catches profits. This illustrates how broader ecosystem considerations can included MSE without need development implementation full hence provides “middle road” single-species MSEs MSEs.
