摘要: Using data from the 1996 and 1998 General Social Surveys, we explore relationships among age, age-linked personal social qualities, two measures of psychological distress: depression (1996) generalized distress (1998). Our study has three aims: (1) to replicate u-shaped age-distress relationship in recent U.S. sets, (2) confirm elaborate on mediators parabolic association, (3) possible suppressor effects. In 1996, decreases young adulthood into midlife increases oldest-old. Less education, lower control, widowhood contribute old-age upturn; however, fewer time demands greater financial satisfaction suppress upward curve. Conversely, less shame, religious attendance decline through midlife; poorer health that decline. Age patterns are similar sample. Greater with finances doubts downward slope; declining levels downturn. education retired status upturn. sum, conditions have opposing influences between age distress.
