摘要: Abstract The Bering Land Bridge has served as a major corridor of interchange between the northern continents for many organisms. We investigated phylogeny all extant species Martes (except gwatkinsi from India) to infer evolutionary relationships and characterize extent trans-Beringian movements. Analyses complete sequences mitochondrial cytochrome b gene partial nuclear aldolase C (241 bp) suggested that genus may be paraphyletic with respect Gulo gulo . These data supported fossil record's indication early radiations gave rise two subgenera ( Pekania Charronia ) more recent, possibly rapid, radiation third subgenus ). Two colonizations North America are evident, one by members another member Contrary hypotheses based on morphological evidence, “americana” “caurina” subspecies groups americana not result independent America. phylogenetic analyses were consistent recognition these monophyletic clades; however, variation in indicated generally parapatric interbreed region limited geographic overlap.
