A god becomes a pest? Human-rhesus macaque interactions in Himachal Pradesh, northern India

摘要: Human-rhesus macaque conflict due to crop raiding is a major problem affecting northern India, particularly the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Management techniques are challenging both commensal nature as well culturally significant status species in India. Studies on wildlife indicate that people’s reactions strongly influenced by their attitudes towards involved insights into these perceptions critical work conflict-resolution measures. Hence, we investigated farmers Bilaspur district, Pradesh, rhesus (Macaca mulatta) impact lives. We interviewed 54 farmer-families from five villages collected data extent damage caused species, farmers’ conflict-mitigation strategies suggested farmers. The results our study hold ambivalent mixed opinions regarding its management.
