摘要: Plastic debris litters marine and terrestrial habitats worldwide. It is ingested by numerous species of animals, causing deleterious physical effects. High concentrations hydrophobic organic contaminants have also been measured on plastic collected from the environment, but fate these poorly understood. Here, we examine uptake subsequent release phenanthrene three plastics. Equilibrium distribution coefficients for sorption seawater onto plastics varied more than an order magnitude (polyethylene >> polypropylene > polyvinyl chloride (PVC)). In all cases, to greatly exceeded two natural sediments. Desorption rates or sediments back into solution spanned several orders magnitude. As expected, desorption occurred rapidly Using equilibrium partitioning method, effects adding very small quantities with sorbed sediment inhabited lugworm (Arenicola marina) were evaluated. We estimate that addition as little 1 microg contaminated polyethylene a gram would give significant increase in accumulation A. marina. Thus, may be important agents transport sediment-dwelling organisms.
