摘要: Abstract Evidence so far indicates the consistent association between brain structural abnormalities and schizophrenia already present at early phases of illness. This study investigates specificity in by using region-of-interest method volumetric analysis a heterogeneous sample spectrum patients their first break 225 subjects, comprising 82 patients, 36 schizophreniform disorder 24 with non-schizophrenic non-affective psychoses, 83 healthy individuals underwent magnetic resonance imaging scan. Quantitative morphometric variables were assessed: cortical CSF, lateral ventricle, total tissue, white matter subcortical gray volumes. The contribution sociodemographic, cognitive clinical characterictics was controlled. Compared controls, ( P = 0.017) = 0.023) showed an increase CSF volume. Schizophrenia had also markedly enlarged ventricle volume compared to controls = 0.026). psychoses did not significantly differ volumes from controls. demonstrated significant decrease tissue (− 1.30% − 1.12% respectively). Thalamic reduced (− 3.84%) = 0.040). Clinical related morphological changes. changes found episode disorders are robustly associated diagnoses independent relevant intervening variables.
