Men’s business, women’s work: gender influences and fathers’ smoking

摘要: To further understand men’s continued smoking during their partner’s pregnancy and the postpartum period, a study was undertaken to explore women’s perspectives of smoking. Using gender lens, thematic analysis transcribed interviews with 27 women completed. Women’s constructions linkages masculine feminine ideals are described. The findings highlight ways position themselves both as defenders regulators Femininities that aligned hegemonic principles underpinned roles in relation presented challenges influencing tobacco reduction. By positioning decision quit man’s solitary pursuit, reduced potential relationship conflict managed maintain identity supportive partner. Insights from this provide direction for developing gender-specific reduction initiatives targeting expectant new fathers.
