Evaluation of forestry models for future settlement of forestry plantations under land claims : the case of Jessievale and Roburna forest plantations in Mpumalanga, South Africa

摘要: Some forestry industry operations in South Africa are currently on land that is under claim. This case study was aimed at identifying the most suitable model for future engagement of communities with forest claim Mpumalanga. In total, 231 households were purposively sampled Jessievale (n=100) and Roburna (n=131) where primary data collected through interviews interactions household heads. general, 70% respondents indicated they would opt a settlement involves forestry. About 26.8% chose joint venture model, whereas 18.6% lease agreement 19.4% least one any other among those given. The preferred due to its ability transfer claimants management skills, create jobs empower communities. addition, showed age skills significantly contribute choice different model. also while interested getting their back, not fully utilizing small portions available them agriculture demand may be driven more by use options such as expanding new homes grazing. conclusion, still option.
