摘要: Abstract This research focused on the biological treatment of sulfidic spent caustics from refineries, which contain mainly hydrogen sulfide, methanethiol (MT) and ethanethiol (ET). Also various organic compounds can be present such as BTEX. Biological oxidation 2.5 mM MT in batch experiments occurred after was first auto-oxidized into dimethyldisulfide (DMDS) whereafter sulfate completed 350 h. DMDS sole substrate completely oxidized within 40 h. Therefore, formation seems to play an important role detoxification MT. ET buthanethiol not successful experiments. Complete observed flow-through reactor Simultaneous sulfide achieved when treating a synthetic caustic, containing 10 mM MT, bubble column with carrier material at hydraulic retention time 6 h. Addition 7.5 mM phenol, common pollutant caustics, did adversely affect process phenol removed effluent. Finally, three different solutions refineries were successfully treated.
