摘要: Reliable population estimates are an important aspect of sustainable wildlife management and conservation but can be difficult to obtain for rare elusive species. Here, we test a new census method based on pedigree reconstruction recently developed by Creel Rosenblatt (2013). Using panel 96 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), genotyped fecal samples from two Swedish brown bear populations reconstruction. Based 433 genotypes central Sweden (CS) 265 northern (NS), the (N = 630 CS, N = 408 NS) fell within 95% CI official estimates. The precision accuracy improved with increasing sampling intensity. Like genetic capture-mark-recapture methods, this applied data single session. Pedigree combined noninvasive may thus augment estimates, particularly species which challenging.
