Role of the dopaminergic nigrostriatal pathway in methamphetamine-induced depression of the neostriatal serotonergic system

摘要: The prevention of the decrease in neostriatal trytophan hydroxylase (TPH) activity with a single dose methamphetamine (MA) was attempted by lesioning nigrostriatal dopaminergic projections bilateral nigral injections 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). rats were injected MA (10 mg/kg) 11 days later, and killed 3 h after injection. 6-OHDA lesions prevented TPH neostriatum, while enzyme slightly attenuated hippocampus unaffected frontal cortex. This study demonstrates: (1) that attenuation can be selected brain area destroying its afferents, (2) implicates central dopamine (DA), or metabolite, observed injection MA.
