Narrative Self-constructions of Senator Ralph Yarborough in the 1967 Congressional Hearings on the Bilingual Education Act

摘要: The Bilingual Education Act of 1968 served as an important initiative in meeting some linguistic needs language minority students. This piece legislation has been studied terms its content, interpretation and implementation. However, there is little research to explain how it was developed passed into law who played role creating supporting this bill. paper uses political anthropological discourse analytic methods examine the narrative self-constructions co-author chief sponsor bill, Senator Ralph Yarborough. After providing background on socio-political climate oc¬curring during these hearings, I address two separate questions. First, Yarborough constructed spaces where he in¬troduced his self-construction narratives. Then, analyze self-construc¬tion narratives which presented himself three distinct roles: edu-cator, traveler younger self.
