摘要: Abstract Purpose Arthroscopic lysis and lavage has been shown to be effective in the management of a variety TMJ (Temporomandibular joint) diseases. The purpose this study was evaluate medium long-term outcomes arthroscopic determine factors associated with progression open surgery. Materials methods A retrospective cohort single operator series performed over 6-year period from 2006 2012. variables gender, age category (Dimitroulis classification) were compared success arthroscopy data analysed via Kaplan Meier method for time-to event analyses Chi-squared tests trend analyses. Pre-operative post-operative Visual analogue scores maximum inter-incisal opening results Student's t-test. Results total 167 patients 216 joints underwent mean follow up 6.9 years. Overall 77.7% had successful result required no further There gender difference respect Males surgery after 6.2 months Females 15.6 (p  Conclusion is reliable operation early stage (i.e., Categories 1, 2 3) disorders TMJ. Patients more advanced joint disease 4 & 5) gained only temporary relief often progress
