摘要: Patients with typhoid fever were studied to determine whether disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), circulating bacteria, and endotoxemia responsible for the signs symptoms of their illnesses. Coagulation tests in 28 patients detected thrombocytopenia 17, hypofibrinogenemia nine, elevated titers fibrinogen-related antigens 20. Repeated testing during convalescence showed a return toward normal values. Intestinal bleeding, however, did not correlate abnormalities tests. Thus, DIC occurred commonly but appeared be subclinical event these patients. In 25 positive blood cultures Salmonella typhi , quantitative from 2 bacteria/ml. Limulus endotoxin plasma negative all 21 tested. These results indicated that concentrations bacteria are lower than other Gram-negative bacterial infections suggested do play major role pathogenesis fever. ( Arch Intern Med 138:407-410, 1978)
