摘要: Summary •  Foliar dehydration tolerance of three mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal legumes is presented here. •  Leaf water potential, osmotic adjustment soil matric potential at the end a lethal drying episode were compared in soybean, cowpea bush bean colonized or uncolonized by Glomus intraradices. •  Lethal leaf similar among treatments except for which plants given low phosphorus fertilization had values 0.3–0.4 MPa lower than higher fertilization. Mycorrhizal symbiosis did not affect potential. Nonmycorrhizal cowpeas showed more phosphorus. Foliage host species typically classified as drought avoiders, bean, survived to potentials although soybean foliage was tolerant dehydration. •  Our findings support idea that when arbuscular fare better during drought, it probably due enhanced avoidance capabilities conferred rather changes ability withstand dehydration.
