摘要: BACKGROUND: Disposable soft contact lenses are known to be colonized by bacteria and play a key role in bacterial keratitis pathogenesis. Such lenses, commonly used after laser refractive surgery procedures which postoperative corneal infiltrations sometimes observed, potentially substrate for inoculation. This study evaluates the extent of such contamination. METHODS: Sixty disposable collected from 60 eyes patients who underwent photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), photoastigmatic (PARK), or situ keratomileusis (LASIK) treatment myopia hyperopia were under sterile conditions over 4 months cultured various media. Results statistically analyzed correlation with clinical epidemiological data was examined. RESULTS: Eleven (18.3%) examined contaminated Staphylococcus epidermidis. No other fungi found. Contamination significantly more common among female (P = .036). Correlation operative parameters insignificant. CONCLUSIONS: independent surgical procedure females frequent users eyelid cosmetics displayed higher contamination frequencies, suggesting that possibly originate flora. The isolation epidermidis requires close surveillance, since it is cause keratitis. Prophylactic tobramycin, gentamycin, sulphonamides could indicated.
