摘要: The use of mature pulmonary lobes for pediatric lung transplantation has recently been described. Successful application this technique could help alleviate the donor shortage. Whether an already lobe can grow by forming new alveolar units after into a developing recipient is not known. We therefore measured functional residual capacity, fixed volume and weight, size air space percent, total number alveoli in left lower porcine transplants 12 weeks growing piglets. Comparisons were made with nontransplanted to determine if or morphologic growth had occurred transplantation. transplanted control all taken from 6-month-old animals (mean body weight 105 ± 4 kg). Recipients 9 old weighed 22 2 kg. By end 12-week holding period, increased their approximately fourfold (85 No significant differences seen capacity analysis between (p = significant). Although reduced-size lobar did display increase either number, there was as determined ≤ 0.05 versus animals). (J T horac C ardiovasc S urg 1992; 104:1329-32)
