摘要: Background Auditory Hallucinations (AH) are nowadays regarded as symptoms following a continuum; from (transient) phenomenon in healthy individuals on one end to symptom of (psychiatric) illnesses at the other. An accumulating number epidemiological studies focused prevalence AH general population, but results vary widely. The current meta-analysis aims synthesize existing evidence lifetime across lifespan. Methods We conducted quantitative review and according PRISMA guidelines. Studies were combined calculate mean population rate. Moreover, prevalences calculated for four age groups: children (5–12 years), adolescents (13–17 adults (18–60 years) elderly (⩾60 years). Results retrieved 25 study samples including 84 711 participants. Mean rate was 9.6% (95% CI 6.7–13.6%). similar (12.7%) (12.4%), these two groups differed significantly (5.8%) (4.5%). Significant heterogeneity indicated that there is still dispersion true rates between studies, even within different categories. Conclusions Current shows quite common (up ten individuals) during lifetime, with reporting experiences more often compared elderly. Large follow-up longitudinal course needed reveal associated risk resilience factors.
