摘要: A clinical selenium (Se) responsive syndrome was observed in a patient on total parenteral nutrition (TPN). The Se concentrations plasma, erythrocytes and whole blood the activity of glutathione peroxidase, (GSHPx (EC 1.1 1.1.9)) were measured at intervals 22 patients receiving TPN for 10 to 40 days. Plasma reached very low levels included lowest value adult man (<10 ng Se/mi), similar those animals with Se-responsive diseases New Zealand. Metabolic balance studies carried out 7 12 days six these during TPN. intake negligible despite relative decrease urinary losses (7.6 ;zg Se/day) gastrointestinal other losses, there marked negative (- zg Se/day). Other factors predisposing status living region soil content effect surgical stress. One plasma 9 Se/mi developed muscle pain tenderness thighs resulting inability walk which responded within week supplementation alone. Most supplement retained but this had produced end 24 only an initial minor increase littlechange erythrocyte GSHPx activity. For 24-hr excretion closely related, much as reported previously healthy Zealand subjects Swedish close association between transfusion could indicate that largely determined by from GSHPx. This study adds further evidence essentiality demonstrates need consider long- term Am. J. C/in. Nuir. 32: 2076-2085, 1979.
