摘要: Although the study of coral reproduction has advanced tremendously over last few decades, a particular gap exists in our knowledge reproductive modes corals from 'mesophotic ecosystems' (MCEs) found at 30-150 m depth. Here, we report for first time on patterns, living cover, and survivorship under different light treatments two scleractinian species MCEs Eilat, Red-Sea: Alveopora allingi A. ocellata. Both are exclusively within high both abundance relative cover. These display synchronous gametogenic cycles with consecutive oocyte growth development. Peak activity occurs late summer (September-October), typified by accelerated growth, coinciding rise seawater temperature. Estimates fecundity show mean monthly maxima 48.5 ± 26.3 23.5 11.8 (Mean SE) oocytes per cm(2) ocellata respectively, prior to spawning. A comparison temperature regimes shallow vs. MCE environments is presented, response these changes parameters discussed. call encouraging much-needed studies sexuality expressed.
