摘要: Ghana is the second largest producer of gold in sub-Saharan Africa, and has experienced a significant increase national mining production over last two decades. Between 1983 1998, industry brought approximately US $4 billion foreign direct investment to Ghana. While large-scale seen increase, artisanal diamond product have grown exponentially. much research been conducted on Ghana, there relatively little environmental human development consequences country. Unlike other West African countries such as Sierra Leonne Liberia, small-scale not linked conflict but its role also modest. This paper examines large Ghana's town, Akwatia, their relative impact degradation, health, livelihood miners. We conclude that while an means employement income-generation for miners, are some challenges, related burden from land degradation health. GCD ailing company desperate need injection capital keep mine alive, botched bidding slowed process de-regulating company. de-regulation may lead reduced Akwatia more revenue invest needs communities town.
