Vitamin D in children and adolescents with sickle cell disease: an integrative review

摘要: Objective:To review the literature about prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and its consequences in children adolescents with sickle-cell disease.Data sources:The survey was performed through bibliographic databases MEDLINE; U.S. National Library Medicine Institutes Health (PubMed); Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciencias da Saude (Lilacs), Cochrane Library. The keywords were selected using Medical Heading Terms (MeSH): “vitamin D” OR deficiency” AND “anemia, sickle cell” “child” “adolescent”. search limited to articles English, Spanish Portuguese, published until April 2014.Data synthesis:Eleven among 18 found. In 6 11 studies, serum levels and/or anemia low. patients exceeded that comparison group. low intake D, seasonality, exposure sun, increased metabolism associated hemoglobinopathy, age increase factors deficiency. There an association between a significant bone weakness painful crises. positive correlation by supplementation functional, physical capacity.Conclusions:The disease is prevalent requires further studies demonstrate comorbidities possible benefits supplementation.
