摘要: Abstract Defective mutants from several cistrons of bacteriophage λ give a normal or subnormal burst following infection bacterial strain lysogenic for closely related but hetero-immune bacteriophage, whereas there is no phage production on the corresponding, non-lysogenic, strain. This effect (“prophage complementation”) results induction prophage genes heteroimmune super-infection. Since control exerted by immunity these can thus be by-passed in trans, one has to conclude that are not directly blocked immunity; rather, repressor prevents synthesis diffusible substance which normally operates as an inducer genes. The suggest gene N key role producing early inducer. represser operating and thence indirectly blocks other functions. From more general viewpoint, situation described here offers concrete examples mechanisms may involved orderly expression developmental process. occurrence triggering groups products originating “earlier” deserves special mention.
