摘要: The lower workfunction of caesium monolayer films compared with that bulk is explained as a size effect. By the uncertainty principle, confinement to raises electron kinetic energy and hence Fermi leading an equivalent fall in workfunction. This effect substantial for alkali metals because low density electrons per atom. A simple calculation presented substantiate this claim. hypothesis such also important determining suboxides proposed. model electronic structure proposed which they are viewed composed regions approximating metal other regions, occupied by oxygen ions, highly repulsive conduction electrons.
