Alleviative effect of quercetin on germ cells intoxicated by 3-methyl-4-nitrophenol from diesel exhaust particles

摘要: As a component of diesel exhaust particles, 3-methyl-4-nitrophenol (4-nitro-m-cresol, PNMC) is also metabolite the insecticide fenitrothion and imposes hazardous effects on human health. In present study, alleviative effect common antioxidant flavonoid quercetin mouse germ cells intoxicated by PNMC was investigated. Results showed that single intraperitoneal injection at 100 mg/kg induced severe testicular damage after one week. PNMC-treated mice significant loss (approximate 40% round cells). caused an increase hydroxyl radical hydrogen peroxide production lipid peroxidation, as well decrease in glutathione level, superoxide dismutase peroxidase activities. Furthermore, treatment increased expression pro-apoptotic protein Bax decreased anti-apoptotic Bcl-XL cells. addition, caspase-3 activity significantly up-regulated cell apoptosis mice. contrast, combined administration 75 attenuated PNMC-induced toxicity. These results indicate displays remarkable protective oxidative testes may represent efficient supplement to attenuate reproductive toxicity environmental toxicants ensure healthy sperm production.
