Fibroepithelial polyps of the vagina: are they old granulation tissue polyps?

摘要: AIMS: To study the nature of fibroepithelial polyps vagina. METHODS: Sixty five vagina and 64 granulation tissue diagnosed over 15 years were reviewed histologically. RESULTS: Cytologically benign multinucleated stromal cells present in large numbers 19 (FEPV). Only one polyp contained atypical cells, a high mitotic count, abnormal mitoses was indistinguishable from malignant tumour. Immunostaining showed presence vimentin desmin positive mono- FEPV occasional oestrogen receptor nuclei. Desmin could not be shown polyps. CONCLUSIONS: are common lesions with fibroblastic which myoid differentiation is often present. may develop as result reaction after some local injury vaginal mucosa. Hormonal factors modulate growth FEPVs. Delayed myofibroblastic explain why sometimes does contract properly but turns into
