摘要: Study objective The Institute of Medicine has called on the US health care system to identify and reduce medical errors. Unfortunately, medication dosing errors remain commonplace may result in potentially life-threatening outcomes, particularly for pediatric patients when requires weight-based calculations. Novel delivery systems that resonate with national priorities. Our goal was evaluate novel, prefilled syringes labeled color-coded volumes corresponding Broselow Tape, compared conventional administration, simulated emergency department (ED) resuscitation scenarios. Methods We performed a prospective, block-randomized, crossover study which 10 physician nurse teams managed 2 arrest scenarios situ, using either prefilled, (intervention) or drug administration methods (control). ED room intravenous port were video recorded during simulations. Data extracted from review by blinded, independent reviewers. Results Median time all doses groups 47 seconds (95% confidence interval [CI] 40 53 seconds) 19 CI 18 20 seconds), respectively (difference=27 seconds; 95% 21 33 seconds). With method, 118 administered, critical (17%); 123 0 (difference=17%; 4% 30%). Conclusion A novel color-coded, syringe decreased significantly reduced resuscitations.
