摘要: To determine if measuring skeletal status at the calcaneus is a potentially valuable technique for diagnosing osteoporosis, we examined five calcaneal assessment techniques in 53 young normal women and 108 postmenopausal with osteoporosis compared these measurements to dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) calcaneus, hip, spine. The instruments, including single-energy (SEXA) four quantitative ultrasound (QUS) were evaluated precision, ability discriminate osteoporotic from subjects, correlation other instruments. coefficient of variation (%CV) instrument, positioning, interobserver, short-term precision instruments ranged 1.34–7.76%, 1.63–7.00%, 1.84–9.44%, 1.99–7.04%, respectively. %CVs similar DEXA, SEXA, stiffness (as measured by Achilles). instrument between DEXA SEXA. subjects was based on analysis area under receiver operating characteristic curves (range 0.88–0.93) equivalent hip (0.88–0.93). correlations strong (0.80 ≤ r 0.91, p < 0.001). These data suggest that although variable, QUS SEXA can patients controls appear be useful osteoporosis.
