摘要: Ultrathin palladium films, at coverages that ranged from one half to eight monolayers, were prepared, layer a time, on well-defined Pt(111) single-crystal electrode surface by surface-limited redox replacement reaction (galvanic exchange) of Cu initially coated via underpotential deposition. Adlayers produced the galvanic-exchange method completely free any residual after displacement-by-Pd step. Analysis current-potential profiles in hydrogen-adsorption region indicated monolayer coverage, film was essentially pure terrace, devoid steps, which did not exhibit hydrogen absorption. At higher coverages, Stranski–Krastanov growth mode manifested emergence voltammetric peak characteristic adsorption–desorption step sites. Peaks diagnostic adsorption both terrace and steps persisted even Pd-film thickness monolayers; intensities considerably diminished, however, absorption into now-bulk-like had become dominant.
