摘要: Theme After decades of absence, large carnivores are being restored or recolonizing substantial portions their historical ranges worldwide. The reintroduction wolves (Canis lupus) to Yellowstone National Park in 1995 is one such example this larger trend. While the Greater Area was rich prey abundance and diversity, how would respond varying assemblages within park an open question. Wolves were expected readily adapt elk-rich (Cervus elaphus) area northern Yellowstone, but restoration success subsequent wolf population ecology less certain central portion park, where formidable bison outnumber elk density more patchy seasonal due severe winters. We describe efforts packs system as it transitioned from no established population. focused on pack dynamics relatively small that supports dense ungulate winter, dispersed summer.
