摘要: article i nfo A consistent methodology enabling the estimation of economic losses associated with drought and comparison estimates between sites across time has been elusive. In this paper, we develop an ecosys- tem service approach to fill research gap. We apply analysis Millennium Drought in South Australian portion Murray-Darling Basin which provided a natural experiment for hydrological ecosystem losses. Cataloguing expenditures in- curred by Commonwealth State governments, communities individuals, find that nearly $810 million was spent during mitigate losses, replace services adapt new equilibria. The developed here is transferable other prone regions, providing insights into potentially unexpected consequences thresholds socioeco- nomic political tipping points after restoration may become very costly. Our application demonstrates potential informing water, preparedness mitigation policy, contribute more robust decision-making.
