摘要: Abstract The effect of ball milling pre-treatment the starting Ti, B 4 C and powders mixture on synthesis dense TiC/TiB 2 composite was investigated through combined use a SPEX mill spark plasma sintering (SPS) apparatus. When unmilled reactants were used, amorphous carbon converted to TiC combustion reaction with elemental titanium, while complete conversion is achieved relatively slow between residual Ti C. In contrast, milled for 24 h reacted completely under regime. SPS product density observed increase from about 97% 100% theoretical value, when original 6 h, further time led slight decrease in density. Crystallite size both boride carbide phases decreased down 50 nm after mechanical treatment. latter one also allowed formation material finer microstructure more homogeneous phase distribution.
