摘要: Abstract Electron stimulated desorption cross sections have been measured for Xe, Kr, and Ar overlayers on the Ag(111) surface. The Xe section is less than 10 −4 A 2 ; Kr strongly temperature dependent, rising from 0.1 at K to 0.18 50 K; 4 independent. These results are rationalized using a model of similar that proposed by Antoniewicz [Phys. Rev. B21 (1980) 3811], in which an atom ionized incident beam, accelerates towards its image neutralized, desorbing only if kinetic energy gained greater neutral binding neutralization position. Fitting these data requires exceedingly rapid dependence distance slow ions. Rather effect mass ion velocity, most important determining diverse behavior different gases equilibrium position heavier farther up overlap repulsive potential so region more neutralization. identifies several contributions isotope effect, predicting it be dependent. extremely sensitive anharmonicity holding potential.
