摘要: The "DNA Damage Hypothesis" pertaining to the evolution of sex was tested using Hydra littoralis. DNA damage produced by irradiating whole live hydra with ultra violet light. A curve uv light dosage vs. survival constructed. Estimations threshold fluence and LD50 were made from curve. In four separate experiments, various combinations environmental temperatures, doses, number frequencies asexual sexual reproduction observed compared. that recieved treatments did not show an increase in consequent amount reproduction, actually showed a decrease. An following is predicted hypothesis, therefore these results do support this theory. data also used make contradictory observations regarding "stress hypothesis" for occurance hydra.
