摘要: [1] The eruption of Eyjafjallajokull volcano in 2010 lasted 39 days, 14 April–23 May. The had two explosive phases separated by a phase with lava formation and reduced activity. During the there were episodes strong winds that advected ash to south southeast leading widespread disruptions air traffic. height plume was monitored weather radar web cameras mounted view volcano. Three different types impact ambient atmosphere on are described. First, situation throughout has been analyzed. frequency northerly wind component is found be unusually high, or 71% comparison 49% average spring. Secondly, during effusive diurnal variation observed altitude evidence suggest nocturnal inversions may have played role, limiting rise weak plume. Thirdly, images from camera analyzed individual cloud heads associated explosions at vent mapped. velocity profiles obtained largely agree conceptual models volcanic plumes.
