摘要: Between March 1994 and December 1996, 1797 rectal swabs were transported to the AMREF laboratory from sites in six countries eastern Africa region: 1749 cultured for Vibrio cholerae 48 Shigella/Salmonella. Culture, isolation, identification antibiotic susceptibility testing performed using standardized techniques. The isolates categorized as sensitive or resistant based on zones of inhibition. rate isolation V. increased progressively less than 20% more 45% between 80-100% Kenya south Sudan, 65-90% Somalia tetracycline, although 1995 Mogadishu showed only 44% sensitivity. All Tanzania Rwanda 100% tetracycline. In Somalia, percentage chloramphenicol cotrimoxazole reduced markedly 85% 70% sensitive. Nalidixic acid erythromycin retained > 75% sensitivity all areas. Shigella dysenteriae flexneri recovered dysentery specimens northern Kenya. Both species similar patterns nalidixic furazolidone. Due variations resistance within region, should be at start an outbreak, use restricted severe cases infection.
