Perceived risks of certain types of cancer and heart disease among Asian American smokers and non-smokers.

摘要: This study assessed knowledge levels of health risks tobacco use among the Asian American (AA) community in Delaware Valley region Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including metropolitan Philadelphia. A cross-sectional self-report survey was conducted to collect information, a stratified-cluster proportional sampling technique used obtain representative sample size target population Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Cambodians. 1374 AA were recruited from 26 randomly selected organization clusters; total recruited, 1174 completed survey, which consisted 410 436 196 100 Cambodian 32 other-group. Other-group excluded for this study. Ten questions asked determine level population. Results indicated that vast majority respondents (82.2%) recognized association between smoking increased risk developing various types cancers heart disease. Between 81.3% 93.3% lung, mouth, throat esophageal cancer For these variables, there statistically significant differences ethnic groups: Koreans most knowledgeable, followed by bladder, pancreatic, cervical, kidney cancers, percentage indicating an ranged 49.2 56.8. There no four groups variables. Generally, however, results showed awareness higher women more educated respondents, non-smokers former smokers, Chinese Korean groups.
