A total parenteral nutrition solution supplemented with a nucleoside and nucleotide mixture sustains intestinal integrity, but does not stimulate intestinal function after massive bowel resection in rats.

摘要: The effects of supplementing a total parenteral nutrition solution with nucleoside and nucleotide mixture on mucosal adaptive processes after massive bowel resection were studied. Male Wistar rats (n = 30) underwent 80% small intestine resection, randomized into two groups received either standard (TPN) or TPN supplemented (2.5 mL.kg -1 .-d ). An additional five rats, fed nonpurified diet not resected, used as controls. After 4 7 d, killed samples collected for indices intestinal enzymatic activities (disaccharidases diamine oxidase). TPN, residualjejunal wet weights, villus heights, protein RNA contents d 7, weights DNA significantly lower than in the control group. Administration resulted higher protein, DNA, contents, ratio proliferating cell nuclear antigen positive cells per crypt did 7. However, disaccharidase oxidase affected by supplementation mixture. Our data suggest that to can attenuate initial atrophy improve turnover but has little effect enterocyte activities.
