One Health: The global challenge of epidemic and endemic leishmaniasis

摘要: 'One Health' proposes the unification of medical and veterinary sciences with establishment collaborative ventures in clinical care, surveillance control cross-species disease, education, research into disease pathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy vaccination. The concept encompasses human population, domestic animals wildlife, impact that environmental changes ('environmental health') such as global warming will have on these populations. Visceral leishmaniasis is a perfect example small companion animal for which prevention might abolish or decrease suffering canine patients, aligns well One Health approach. In this review we discuss how leishmaniases undertaken globally through anthroponootic visceral (AVL) zoonotic (ZVL). ZVL epidemic has been managed to date by culling infected dogs, treatment cases sandfly vector insecticidal homes reservoir. Recently, preventive vaccination dogs Brazil led reduction incidence disease. Vaccination permits greater dog owner compliance measures than programme. Another advance Africa provided programme combines remote satellite sensing, ecological modelling, geo-spatial mapping distribution vectors animal-to-animal animal-to-human pathogen transmission.
