摘要: Recruitment and retention of African Americans into Alzheimer disease (AD) research studies poses challenges owing to long-standing socio-economic cultural differences, pragmatic difficulties in reaching the American population, a legacy distrust medical research. In this study, we report on our efforts use live theater educate about AD increase minority participation it. We describe experiences at University Memory Aging Center (Cleveland, OH) commissioning, writing, producing several productions focused themes related their dealing with family members AD. Analysis recruitment data, gathered before after one productions, indicated that enrollment Center's Research Registry increased play. Survey production different play, viewing piece knowledge about: (1) symptoms AD; (2) fact memory loss is not part normal aging; (3) greater prevalence among Americans. Also, production, more audience members: reported knowing how become involved research; felt comfortable involving would recommend others. conclude dramatizes living person can AD, improve attitudes taking research, lead studies.
