摘要: The cytoplasmic islet cell antibody patterns of sera from positive non-diabetic and diabetic endocrine autoimmune patients, newly-diagnosed Type 1 (insulin-dependent) patients were characterised using four layer immunofluorescence with monoclonal antiproinsulin or anti-glucagon antibodies. Two distinct types identified. One gave a diffuse staining in both Beta Alpha cells (‘whole’ pattern), was not affected by pre-incubation rat brain homogenate. other had granular appearance restricted predominantly to (‘selective’ pattern) completely inhibited Some appeared have ‘mixed’ pattern, which glucagon-positive weaker than proinsulin-positive cells. ‘selective’ pattern found 19 (79%) 24 two (22%) who developed diabetes (p<0.0001 vs patients), none patients. ‘whole’ only had, subsequently progressed to, diabetes. This study has identified novel specificity demonstrates that antibodies stain are associated progression
