摘要: Analysts have shown increased interest in how social movements use tactical repertoires strategically. While the state is most often guarantor of new benefits, many movements—from labor to environmental movement—target corporate, educational, and other institutions. Employing a unique data set protests reported New York Times (1960–90), this research examines are, part, contingent on institutional target movement selects. In particular, authors consider role each target's vulnerabilities its capacities for response—repression, facilitation, routinization—as explanations degree transgressive protest faces. The results provide strong evidence considering targets as central factor shaping forms protest.
