摘要: Previous research suggested a role of gaze in preference formation, not merely as an expression preference, but also causal influence. According to the cascade hypothesis, longer subjects look at item, more likely they are develop for it. However, date connection between viewing and liking has been investigated predominately with self-paced conditions which were required select certain items from simultaneously presented stimuli on basis perceived visual attractiveness. Such might promote default, non-mandatory liking. To explore whether is separable, we examined evaluative processing single naturalistic food images 2 x design, conducted completely within subjects, varied both type exposure (self-paced versus time-controlled) evaluation (non-exclusive exclusive). In exclusive evaluation, was associated higher likelihood positive evaluation. non-exclusive trend reversed such that durations lesser ratings. Furthermore, time-controlled tasks, there no significant relationship duration The overall pattern results consistent times measured terms (i.e., stimulus presentation screen) actual amount time subject effectively gazed screen). data indicated does intrinsically lead when evaluating images; instead, depends task. We suggest self-determination may be prerequisite any influence processing, regardless facilitative. Moreover, purported facilitative link appears limited only restricted number can included chosen set.
